On September 14, my oldest daughter became a member of the United States Air Force. She is at Lackland AFB in San Antonio for basic training and will go to school to learn about electronics after that. She hopes to get a job in communications.

Was watching the hydroplane races on t.v. today (8/3/09) and was reminded of Derek's death in 2008 by the annoucement the KIRO tv news guys made. Logged on to this site to see the comments written last fall when his death occurred. I live in Wenatchee now, but my sister Sandy called me last fall when she heard Derek's name on the news. What a tradegy to lose him that way. Makes me sad to see all the names from the class of 1977 that aren't with us anymore. Thanks so much for keeping this website alive! Hugs, Tammie

Hi Scott,

Last week I found the camera that I had at the 30th reunion, and emailed you the pictures that I had taken. Did you get the emails?

I receive periodic emails from Classmates.com that someone has signed my guest book. With the current financial crunch, I won't be enrolling in their paid membership, which is what is necessary to view the guest book there. I check in here, and have listed my website on my profile which has an email address for me. I would love to hear from my old classmates!

Thank you again Scott Bryce for this website!

Ouch. I am so grieved to hear of Derik Loso's passing. He was a permanent fixture our junior and senior years within the crazy crowd inhabiting the I-Hi-Times office. Smart, funny, artistic (remember his incredibly off-the-wall "Sophomore Hints" comic strip?!), kind, bashful, loyal. He was very much a part of the class of 77 for those of us who enjoyed his friendship on a daily basis way back when.

On February 18-21 the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association will hold a debate and speech tournament. My daughter plans to enter in the Team Policy debate competition. The competition will be held at Crosspointe Church, 19527 104th Ave NE, Bothell.

That means two things.

1) I will be in the area for a few days, though probably too busy to do any socializing. I may stay in town for a day or two to visit family and friends.

2) We will be looking for judges. Anyone can be a judge, but people who have a background in debate, speech or drama, or work in professions that involve debate or argumentation have an advantage. Since the emphasis in the NCFCA is communication, and not beating your opponent, the competitors need to be able to argue their cases before judges who may never have seen a debate before. This also means that debaters in the NCFCA speak more slowly than in other leagues, since they are more concerned with communicating clearly to the judges, rather than packing as much information as possible into their allotted time.

Events include Team Policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate and speech events including platform speeches, interpretive events and limited preparation events.

Even if you are not interested in judging, the speakers are pretty impressive. You are welcome to come and just watch.

On the news of Derik E. Loso's passing

To say that learning of Derik Loso's apparent suicide was deeply shocking not so much an understatement as it is a means for me to exhale. I am in stunned disbelief and feel deep sorrow for his family, friends and colleagues, as well as for those of us who walked alongside this gentle soul in earlier years. I remember Derik first of all as a trusted and sensitive friend, and almost immediately next as a gifted artist and passionate creator. Derik had an immense capacity for love and friendship, and it is my recollection of this that somehow helps me to make sense of his death. I have seen others be overcome with life and were suddenly hopelessly lost - others similar to Derik, with a profound, longing affection that burned strong and then burned out too soon. The last time I saw him, he and another friend from Issaquah had made the long trip to Vancouver, Washington, on a Saturday morning to be present at my brief wedding ceremony. I recall looking across the small group in attendance and seeing Derik's intently loyal expression return my gaze; he nodded re-assuringly to say, "I'm here for you." The time I saw Derik prior to this moved me a great deal more. Derik and I were both in the groom's party of our mutual friend's wedding, for which I had to travel North from Vancouver in order to participate. After the festivities were ended and I was preparing to depart for home, Derik and I talked for a while. It became clear during the conversation that some closure of our old school friendships was occurring, and that we would probably never be as close as frequently as we had been up until then. It was not a childish refusal that I felt from him but rather a true sense of loss, in that this might be the last time we would see each other for a while. We had been close companions, and had spent many an evening together with music, with playing cards and with the usual accouterments of our wilder years. Derik seemed to always also have a romantic interest - whereas none of us others in our small circle could hardly manage any such commitment. He also worked hard and became strident in independence at a young age - something for which we whom he often entertained at his own apartment were vaguely grateful because it allowed us a place to play. I, for one, was always envious of Derik's industriousness, his attention to order and style, and was often overcome by his enthusiasm for his friendships and activities alike; I coveted his energy, which was boundless, and his ability to project what he imagined onto paper, and later into three dimensions in Haunted House events and television sets. As a writer with an often irrepressible tendency to the weird, I would sometimes find Derik's sense of wit too conventional on one occasion, or too garish on the next. He made up for whatever I, in my egocentric way, would find lacking in him with his deft and efficient technique. He was a master cartoonist, and I remember him constantly penciling and inking his way through idea after idea. We collaborated on a few things, and now I mean to find them in my archives and preserve them for good: particularly memorable was an eight-panel comic strip based on the lyrics of Blue Oyster Cult's "Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll." I told him the idea that I had, which capitalized on a fleeting obsession with Al Jolson and involving a Satanic Mass, and we may have written it out to some extent, but soon he appeared with the completed art, and it was absolutely perfect. It ran in the I-Hi Times, along with lots of other stuff he did, including a perfect rip-off of the original "Rolling Stone" masthead for our lampoon issue, "Issaquah Stone." His work, I felt - I was convinced - was headed for much bigger and better venues. I agonize, then, to read that possibly among the issues with which he was struggling in his last days would be the sense of being in a rut career-wise. If there were anyone among the people I was close to in my late teens and early twenties whom I truly expected to succeed at anything and enjoy it just as much, that person would have been Derik. And I suppose that tells me a lot about my own feelings of pressure and the chaos that is sometimes unleashed in my psyche - chaos for which the most drastic resolution resonates as appropos. It is appropos of nothing but my ego and my practical tendencies that I was not a better and closer friend to Derik these past twenty or so years since those two weddings. He was certainly on my list of folks to connect with in the past few years as this Internet brings many of us back into each others' loving arms. What I would give now to have Derik among the people with whom I keep in touch. Regardless of the tragic circumstances surrounding his death, the indelible stamp that he left upon me asks me to believe that Derik had given everything he had and could find no more to give, and that it broke his heart.

I just read in the times today that one of our friends from school decided to call it short Nov 3rd 2008 on the Aurora Bridge... Derik Loso... I knew him in school and we became once a year friends as he was usually near or operating a camera for KIRO TV at Seafair. It was sad for me to see the perception of a normal guy hit the low spot and do what he did. I guess we all have lows and we are all only one step from the rail on that bridge to who knows where. Have a good one Derik and I will miss you in the pits..... God bless you and I pray for your family. NB

Heads up:
Having no time to write what I should, I pray that what should be done can be done by Tuesday. I know that what we are facing seems somewhat innocuous to too many people, and these same people hold deep visceral and misguided hate for a sitting administration. None of these clueless apathetic voters have any recollection to the responsibilities of the previous administrations from the Clinton s (Hillary gets some credit), Bush Sr., Carter, Nixon-Ford, Johnson, FDR-Truman, Wilson, and T Roosevelt s that has placed us where we are today. Was Nikita Khrushchev right? It s taken over 50 years since then for all the finishing touches and stitching to come together, but we have now reached the precipice of our Constitution.
Please feel free to read the Federalist Papers http://www.foundingfathers.info/federalistpapers/ for more insight, and perusing the Constitution http://www.law.emory.edu/index.php?id=3080 is always helpful.

As a Constitutionalist and one who has served to defend the Constitution and all the citizens protected by it, I am concerned with the current violations of it and what may become an abolishment of it in the next few years.

Our Republic was not supposed to be, nor was it the intent of the founding fathers who established the framework of this Constitutional Republic and our Government, a design to instill entitlement to its citizens:

1. A quality of life
2. Recourse for reckless behavior (e.g. abortion, treatment of STD s, birth control, farming subsidies, financial welfare (both individual and corporate)
3. A secular advocate and a Christian oppressor
4. A guarantee of healthcare
5. A plethora of so many more social services.

All at the cost to the federal government budget, creating chasms of nepotism and bureaucracy. I ve it once I ll say it again; the only truly successful organization that the Government has created has been the US Military.

If communities, Cities, and States want social programs they belong at the lowest level possible. Do you want the Federal EPA bureaucrats in your community stifling your economy, or allowing pollution standards that place you and your family s health at risk? Of course not! Its one thing for the Federal government to set standards for a multitude of things but to redistribute wealth is a violation to the Constitution and a crime called robbery.

Only local citizens can determine what s best for their state and community as far as social services, policies, education, healthcare, and their economy. To take money from one State and place it in another is Federal crime.

As I see it America already needs saving, but if Barack Obama (BO) is elected, America will require a full resuscitation, if it s not too late. This country can not sustain itself and its economy with the debt that BO purposes. Through Federal taxation we will be decimated and our transfer of wealth overseas will increase exponentially until our creditors will come to collect and foreclose on our country and Constitution. I guess change is worth the risk to the fool hearted.

In the past 6 months who would have thought that our government would hand out over a trillion dollars to corporate bailouts and pork barrel spending? Have no fear those who can spend more recklessly are trying to steal this election (which is our greatest National Security threat are we currently facing), through registration and voter fraud. If this election is not protested and closely examined we have no hope of fixing what truly ails us.

If our Federal government can kill an unwanted consequence from immoral behavior, yet have no standards for executing elections and enforcing voting laws then do we deserve hope? Where is leadership in this country? I ll tell you!

It must come to the heart of America! Only America s Heart can save this great Nation from the perversion of marriage, and Socialism that besieges our communities. It takes ¾ s of the states to radify an amendment to the Constitution per the Constitution:

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

So this means that two thirds of the heartland of America will have to lead the charge. This means that 33 of the below 40 states can pull together draft amendments that can protect America from the abuses of politics, and I believe can be conveyed to the same 40 if not more that such amendments are necessary:

Alaska, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Delaware, and Maryland

What Amendments would be necessary, where do I begin!

1. Let s start with term limits. We need to end the career politician who starts to serve their constituents and ends up really serving themselves.
2. No Golden Parachutes and a complete revamp of elected officials retirement plan. No wonder Social Security (SS) is a mess; they re not partakers in the plan. They have to rely upon SS like everyone else, and then they will be vested in protecting it and ensuring that only vested citizens receive these benefits. Serve two years and get an awesome retirement? Our Armed Forces put their lives on the line and don t get this, nor does any one in the civilian sector get this
3. They have to maintain a balanced budget, and can not plan on a tax hike to bail them out. Noone runs their home this way.
4. Requires ¾ s voter approval to create new government agencies and taxation to fund it.
5. 10% Federal taxation cap on income, payroll, and corporations. That s all God requires, shouldn t the government manage their finances the same?

I could go on, but I believe you get my point. In closing, I ve included what I believe are eye opening insights to the values of a man that wants your vote and approval to destroy what we call America. Don t give up, get out and vote and hurry up and educate those impressionable youths and uninformed, so they can make the right decision. Please feel free to cut what you want and forward this to your favorite young voters, democrats, and moderates.
I apologize for the choices, you can blame the DNC and the GOP, they didn t want to give us a quality choice, so I am voting Democrat again this year, and will cast my vote for John McCain, like I did when I voted for Bush (another Democrat). I can t and will not vote for a Socialist who is apt to destroy this country.
Thanks for your time and efforts!

Comment from Thomas Sowell (his link here: http://www.tsowell.com/ & Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Sowell) about the election (I received from a friend) that s worth including. The article below was written by syndicated columnist, Thomas Sowell, a black man. He wrote it in a humorous way this past week in a column titled 'Random Thoughts' and published it in newspapers nationally, so maybe you've already seen it. If not, be my guest:

Senator John McCain could never convince me to vote for him. Only Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama can cause me to vote for McCain. After long and serious thought, I have decided to endorse Senator John McCain for President. I have always voted for the person and have not voted for anyone because some political party was telling me who I should vote for. We all know the choices by now and, that said, I do believe that the process of selecting a chief executive is deeply flawed. The words 'money' and' special interests' come to mind, among many others.

Here's the way I see it:

Barack Obama, you are a fine public speaker. You are also an extremely liberal Senator from the State of Illinois , which has a long and rich history of political corruption of the first magnitude. You are indeed a child of that system.

You have finally insulted my intelligence far beyond my capacity to tolerate your insults. It has nothing at all to do with your skin color. As a matter of fact, it would be so COOL to finally have an African-American for President. What a great statement that would be to the entire world that we are indeed the greatest country on earth! But, unfortunately, General Colin Powell is not running, and YOU are NOT the man for this job !

Barack, baby, you want me to believe that you have never heard the sermons of your own pastor, the Right Reverend 'God Damn America' Jeremiah Wright. It is a matter of record that this has been your church for over 20 years. It is a matter of record that you were married there by this very pastor, and that your children were baptized there. The good Reverend saw fit to visit Khadafy in Libya with you and to give a lifetime achievement award to Louis Farrakhan, of all people. We have all now seen excerpts of his sermons all over the airwaves by now. And you have publicly stated that this man IS your 'spiritual mentor.'

BUT, your pastor is NOT the reason I am NOT voting for you. His words were disturbing enough, but it is your own HUGE church congregation, seen jumping, hooting and howling to his words in the background that disturb me the most. And please don't tell me you attended church there and never once heard a 'discouraging word' in the 20 years you attended there. Don't tell me, that in addition to the good reverend, that you are now not having anything to do with all those other people seen hooting and howling out in the audience in the background of h is fiery tirades. Even Oprah Winfrey got disgusted and walked out on your campaign. I am no Oprah fan, but still she did the right thing.

Now you look me in the eye and ask me to believe that you never heard such language in all the years you attended there! This is like me telling you that I attended dozens of Klan rallies and never once heard the 'N' word. Yep. And Bill Clinton 'did not inhale'. Yes, Mr. Obama, we all have friends who have said stupid things that embarrassed us, but NOW you have asked me to believe something that is so incredibly stupid that you are telling me that I am just stupid enough to believe you. THAT is the main reason that I will never vote for you.

I am deeply sorry, that in a country teeming with enormously talented African Americans who would make a good President, that the political system has chosen YOU. You are a pathetic and plastic excuse for an American, who will not even salute the Flag during the Pledge of Allegiance. God forbid you ever get near the Oval Office.

Which leaves us with Senator John McCain. John, you are a flawed man. You are a bit old, a bit looney, and you have a notoriously bad temper. This perfectly qualifies you, in my humble opinion, to lead us for the next eight years. I WANT your trembling hand on the
nuclear button.

Think about it. We have Kim Jong IL, Chavez and Ahmadenijad all running around like lunatics, threatening America and threatening to plunge the world into nuclear Armageddon We have Putin and the Chinese blustering and rattling their sabers at us. I want John McCain in the Oval Office and I want him to be really ticked off at all these other nut jobs around the planet.

John, once you are elected, I want you to go into the Oval Office and throw one of your perfect FITS. Jump up and down and throw something through a plate glass window. Rip the drapes down and foam at the mouth a bit. And I want the whole thing on camera so that Ahmadinejad can see it. I want ALL of these 'world leaders' to lay awake at night and to break out in a cold sweat every time they think of messing with the United States of America .

I want the nuclear button sitting right next to the alarm clock on your night stand. I want pictures of this to be sent to Iran, Russia, China, Venezuela, Cuba, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, and those other dopes in the sheets, the Saudis.

On the domestic front, poor John did try and reach across the aisle to the opposition in a desperate effort to compromise and to get the Congress to do something. You may not agree with his efforts, but at least he TRIED. For all his efforts, all he got handed to him was his head in a basket. The liberals are ticked at him and the conservatives are ticked at him. Just my kinda guy.

One heartbeat from the Oval Office. Finally. John McCain knows on a most personal level what it is to suffer horrible torture for years and to see others die, right in front of you, for their love of America . When you ask him about it, he will tell you that what he did was 'nothing special. ' Even more incredibly, he states that ANY American who truly loves his country would do exactly the same as he did in that situation. You and I will have a hard time believing that, but the real point is that John McCain believes that about the 'average American,' and that, dear friends and neighbors, is why I will cast my one poor ballot for on election day for John McCain -- warts and all.'

And for final cogitation, here s a disputed piece that may not be entirely accurate, but it is funny to see the left doing damage control, since more of it is true than false:

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler (see link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Tytler), was a Scottish-born British lawyer and writer, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.'

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'

'From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'

'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy;
7. From apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage'

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

Number of States won by:
Gore: 20
Bush: 30

Square miles of land won by:
Gore: 580,000
Bush: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:
Gore: 127 million
Bush: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in
counties won by:
Gore: 13.2
Bush: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: 'In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of
government welfare...' Olson believes the United State s is now somewhere between the 'complacency and apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this then delete this message if you are not then Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom. Thanks for reading.

Just dropping in to say 'Great Job' Teresa, those of you who helped out and everyone who took time out of their busy lives to join in on the reunion a/o signing this guest book.

Sorry it took me so long to express my gratitude. Left for Women's World Cup in China 2 days after the reunion and was gone for 6+ weeks and just never got back here to say "Thank You."

Hope to see as many of you as can be there at either our collective 50th birthday party or the next reunion. Until then, I will keep checking back to read your updates.

Thanks again for all the efforts to get everyone together again.
Be Well,

Yesterday I got a funny comment from my 17-yo daughter.

She plays guitar and piano, and likes her music a little "intense."

I played Steely Dan's Reelin' in the Years for her. She said, "That was back in the days when a musician had to rely on his skill, and not his stomp box."

I love it.

Guy,
Linda Ostrem passed away almost 3 years ago of cancer. She was married to a great guy for many years and is missed by her family.
Thanks for bringing the elementary school photos. It was great seeing you again and so much fun identifying all those little kids in the photos!
I'd like to say thanks to all the people who spent time talking with me. There are too many of you to list in this small space so I'll just say it was great to get reacquainted with so many of you. My e-mail is listed on my profile, write any time. There were a number of you I saw from a distance but didn't get to talk to; my apologies. It's not because I didn't want to!
I walked around Issaquah that weekend and was struck by how different it is. It's not the Issaquah I grew up in. The Issaquah that I know and hold dear to my heart is not so much a place as it is the people I grew up with; Issaquah to me will always be you guys. Charles

...and everybody else for that matter,

Kevin Ellisen is the person that is to be taken off of the memorial list. He is definately not deceased. I am so happy!!! I spoke to him this evening and he is alive and kicking and living in Kenmore. I have his current address now so he is going on the mailing list for the 50 year birthday party, and the 35 year reunion. I would talk more, (you all know that I am quite capable), but I am still reeling from last weekend and the great time had by all, and everyone's generosity!

Have begun cleaning up the mailing list and added one more address that I came upon by accident and then I, of course, I added our "not-so-martyred" buddy Kevin Ellisen.

Much Love and Blessings to you ALL,

Teresa

It came up at the reunion that someone on the In Memorial list isn't quite dead yet. I forgot who it was. I would like to remove the name, but I don't want to resurrect the wrong person.

It was really a pleasure walking in the bar and into the past. The one thing that I noticed was that everyone seemed to be having a blast and that everyone I chatted with was laid back and relaxed. I left at 11 and it was still packed!! Thanks again!!!

For those of you that weren't there. Here goes:

I missed Friday evening so I'll leave to someone else to log that night...As for Saturday and Sunday...two entirely different stories to tell.
Saturday was a fun filled evening with laughter,
mostly from the "Oh my, you haven't changed one bit..."to the smiles smiles that come from seeing an old best friend or "partner in crime", the bear hugs and lingering handshakes... tears as some stood viewing the memorial to our fallen princes and princesses. There was a slide show and we saw our youth again.like it was yesterday, because we remembered everything with a little help from the "A/V operator". The food was amazing, the toasts and applause...

Now yesterday: "the Picnic" :

What a beautiful day...for those of you who couldn't make it, I am not talking about the weather. We were children again laughing and remembering our neighborhoods and neighbors, classmates and teammates, wallflowers at the school dances, and the hair styles...funny how we can the grade we were in by our hairstyles.
Now there are physical changes, but the 70's formed us and we are a great honor the the times...from what I saw yesterday, We have beautiful children, loving spouses and lifelong friends...these memories are branded deep in the corners of my heart, as I have held onto countless other memories since "then" - "clear, intact, and indestructable.

Last Saturday Roger Max and I rode our motorcycles to Lake Wilderness Park and found it without problems using the directions provided. Witte road is the next light up the hill on 169 after the light at Mc-Ds in Maple Valley; remember to get in the right turn only lane after Mc-D. SE 248th is before Lake Wilderness Golf course. Remember to turn left before the tall wire mesh which was probably placed there to protect the homeowners across the street from my slices.

It is less than a week away and I look forward to seeing everyone there.

My compliments to those who have worked to put together this website. I just came across it and it's great seeing some old names and pictures !
I made it to the 10th & 20th but missed the 25th and I don't believe I can make the 30th....but you never know....
After high school, I went to the U Dub in Seattle, graduated...and moved between Seattle, Alaska, & LA ....and ended up in the Wenatchee area. ---Have resided there now for 20 + years. Am married to a great gal, Vicky, and we have 2 daughters, 15 and 11. They keep us young.....and pretty busy. The girls are active in sports and my wife & I are active in our Church and in the local community. We like to travel when we get the chance. I love motorcycling and I still have the '64 Studebaker I bought the week before we graduated in '77 back in Issaquah !
(It may be in better shape than I am)
--Here's hoping all you Issy grads are well & enjoying life on your on terms.

An epistle to Issy 77:
I muse the pending reunion and here are a few unsolicited thoughts (some comical) I ve had thinking about the reunion and seeing those we possibly can and thought I d share it with those who have nothing better to do (possibly like the writer), so for your reading pleasure, enjoy!!!!:

So, I'm not sure if we ever grew up; or if we were really children back then. We were definitely at a different maturity level, and some of us have advanced and hopefully some of us have at least sustained ourselves (maturity wise), but we sure had fun and hopefully still do. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of everyone s experiments with themselves after 30 clicks. Collectively we have millenniums of experience, but would we be hard pressed to muster a pound of wisdom; or did we really have what it took to reach those ideals and dreams we clung to when we were together everyday in that Petri dish (that may have been someone else's experiment) we called school? Remember that line The happiness of our life, depends upon the quality of our thoughts ; probably fell short for all, because I for one had to take action to find happiness. Thinking it didn t really make it so, kind of like that tree in the woods may have made a sound but if you didn t hear it what s the point ..

I know we've all changed, and as I said, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone that can make it. I know it s a struggle in so many ways, and as I read the entries in this blog from the tragedies to triumphs and from anticipation to anxiety, I have to think about the compelling need we (as a culture) have to reach back. Not that it s a bad thing, but if you look at how we congregate together and even look inward with retrospect to measure ourselves by these specific hallmarks in time (10, 20, 30, 40, etc.) its like a migration, innate within most if not all of us, to reconnect. This is not a happenstance that occurs or a program executing, it s a desire to see, know, or understand what has happened to others and maybe bring clarity to ourselves as to how or why we are where we are today.

Haven t we all had to deal with adversity to some level, and some more then others, and hopefully that adversity has not been so over powering that we or our friends succumb to forfeiting our attendance in this journey we call life. I know there s so many ways to look at life and death, that we all put our spin on it and The Life After , and without losing reverence of those who have passed on regardless of the circumstances, it is our privilege, right, responsibility, and solemn honor to remember those who have touched our lives and carry on.

As we the names of those that are listed in the Memorial section; words alone can not fully express their significance to me, or us, and each time their names come to mind I grieve for them, for you, and for me.

It is re-enforcing to see others write of their successes, and hopefully each obtained by the high road (though some may say it doesn t matter the course, only the destination, I have found the course to be the point, and the destination continues to elude us all until the end), but successes are the fruits in life, and they can t come from a sheltered life or the fruit bares no sweetness.

If our youth was the season of spring and our careers is the summer of our life, then some of us might be finding ourselves in the beginning of our life s harvest. The beginning of the autumn years, and yes there s many years ahead, but now is the time where we can afford an amenity or two (or more), and while others call it a mid-life crisis, this is the season in life where we can once again enjoy those things that we sacrificed or did without so that others may not want or need. So I for one am looking forward to seeing this transition in all of our lives.

I am also looking forward to seeing the disparity in politics between us, and to understand what fuels the passion and squelches the fire. Have we all learned that a few things that you should never talk about is politics and religion , unless its amongst friends, and my friends we are on the fringe of change that that is a powder keg from both the left and the rights perspectives.

So how to you classify yourself politically?
If you consider yourself liberal do you believe that you don t pay enough in taxes, that the greatest nation on earth should have starving children, and that everything should be socialized and government controlled. Is your house a sanctuary for animals and people alike, or do you have limits of what you re willing to give up for others? Do you have a government job? Are the best organizations government ran (e.g. school, welfare, defense, Medicare, EPA, etc.)?
If you consider yourself conservative do you believe the entitlement attitude is destroying America? Do you have a puritan perspective that abortion, marriage, and other social aspects should be government controlled? Do you have a government job?
I have found that except for the truly extreme, most people don t differ too much except for a few social or moral issues. Reasonable people equally informed seldom disagree.
One thing I am certain of is that when it comes to most government organizations especially social organizations that are government ran, that s where you find waste, abuse, and corruption. School is a great example. Look at what we pay per student and from top to bottom and most everyone would agree that America s school system is broke. The best education is in home schooling or private education, so let s continue to poor more money into a corrupt system and in some places a bankrupt system. Isn t that how we manage our own home finances?
Regardless of the disparity, I humbly hope that none of us take for granted our responsibilities as a citizen and get involved. Participate in elections and learn about the issues and stop voting along party lines, because you don t know any better. An uninformed vote is just as bad as not voting, and over the past two centuries many people have died for your right to participate in this government process. Don t let anyone convince you that you live in a democratic government, you live in a Constitutional Republic , and you do have a civic responsibility to vote.
Hold our servants accountable to the offices we elected them and ensure they protect the one thing that still makes this the greatest nation on earth and that s the Constitution. Don t let them usurp your responsibility, because it s too complicated and that they know what s better for us then we do. There are many in office today that want to trample on your freedom for the children, and we re fools to believe the it takes a village to raise a child phrase and mentality. Insist on term limits by voting in a new person each election. We have to stop the political machine from being a career and make it a civil service like it used to be at the beginning. Who would want a retirement package after one term in office? Why have they served themselves so well? Because we ve let them get away with it, and high time the gravy train stopped. I do believe that the cost of service should not be bore by the servant, but come on, a retirement package and the best private medical plan as well as education?
Who got me started on this anyway!

I have also found that friends come and go, but enemies tend to accumulate. One thing I have not done well since the graduation is staying in touch with my friends. I regret to say, that I have not kept in touch with anyone to any form of regularity, and so I hope to change that. Though I look back at our graduation, it s not like I could think of anyone in our class that s not a friend, from all the old labels of stoner to jock, we all seemed to get over the differences by graduation time. So even though we may have differing opinions in so many ways, it s my perspective that we re all from the same fold, and look forward to see the social dynamics of the old cliques, and individual personalities that made our class as we remembered. It s always great coming home.

As for me I have more then my fair share of challenges that covers every facet of life; however, music, racing, and just cruising on my scooter seem to keep me vertical. I do enjoy the stress of work and am over paid for what I m allowed to do, but find myself under challenged and desirous of power not money. There seems to be too few human sacrifices these days and not enough executions, and with the pending destruction of mankind from global warming I find it hard to find humor in the things that use to worry me. Below is my itinerary while I m in town and truly appreciate scheduling our reunion during the eruption of Rainer. That s one event no one would want to miss, right?

Finally: Kudos to Scott for the continuance of this class page, hope you forgive me for being so short winded, and a big KUDOS to Theresa for taking the ball and getting this to happen, and for only $85 a head. You should run for office, you have my vote And my condolences to anyone who actually read this rant/diatribe! I ll see those who are visible in a couple of weeks. Its mobster2u@verizon.net

Hi everyone, wow what a lesson in humility. so many of our childhood friend gone, but never forgotten right? Having just lost my daughter this summer it has been a lesson in life I am sometimes not sure how I am making it through. My 3 surviving daughters and two grandsons have been the light in my life
that inspires me to go on and realize those we have lost in our class live in the memories in our
heart, because the memories are there; clear, intact, and indestructable.

As for me the life changing lessons I've learned in the not so distant past, and comforting thoughts and words from so many have encouraged me to take a giant leap of faith in myself, I am one of the newest students at GRCC beginning in Januarys Winter quarter.I'll get my AA in 18 months and then on to the U of W for the BS- no pun intended. Anyhow, I am so excited and anxious to see all those whom have shared in 40 years of memories - Yes, 40...If you think about it, some of us have been friends since 3rd grade and since it takes ten years to complete 3rd thru 12th, we( and you know who you are) can add an additional ten to every reunion.

Just called Pippa last night, she seems to be doing fine. Doesn't live in Skagway any more they moved to Anchorage a while back. I want to see ALL of your "buns" at the reunion!!! Anita, if you can make it to the picnic at Wilderness send me an R.S.V.P. please so I have an accurate head count for the food. That goes for all of you.

By the way, for those of you who can only make one of the paying events, the price breakdown is this:

Saturday night only: $55 for alumni only, $100 for a couple

Sunday Luau at Lake Wilderness: $35 per alumni, and $60 per couple. A couple immediate relatives, (ie: younger children), gratis.

I need an accurate head count so everyone has a good time and there is plenty for everyone!

Can't wait to see you all....

As long as we are sharing stories about our kids, (we were doing that, weren't we?)...

My oldest daughter, Ruth, got involved in video production at our church a couple of years ago when she joined me to set up lights for a video shoot. The video team was short handed, so she was asked to run camera. That started an interest in communications/video. She has been a key player in the video team since then.

At 17 she took a class in video production at a local community college and earned the highest grade in the class. She gained a reputation for herself as a reliable, skilled, hard worker on various video shoots she worked on in connection with the class, including work at a regional TV station, Valley TV.

Next week she will be headed to Virginia for a two week debate camp to prepare for the up-coming debate season. After that she will be spending a week with my mother in Pennsylvania.

As plans were coming together for the Virginia trip, an opportunity suddenly came up. One of the debate dads will be doing a video shoot in Virginia (the same location as the camp) and is looking for crew. The video shoot starts, get this, the day after Ruth is scheduled to fly home. So airline flights were changed, and Ruth will be interning in Virginia until mid-August.

And when she comes home, she has been offered a part-time job at Valley TV as associate producer!

The producer apologized that he doesn't have the resources to pay more that $10.00 per hour.

"Are you kidding? I could only make $7.50 anyplace else!"

"You aren't flipping burgers, as long as I can help it."

So, I am a proud daddy watching my oldest make her way into the world. It is fun to watch.

Hey to all of you that remember me:)(I moved during our 9th grade year to Oregon....) as I read this guestbook I Knew so many of you. I came to the 20th with Lorna Taylor (whom I try to keep in contact with although now its been a couple years)and Jennifer Schaible Davis whom I see at least 2ce a year, but talk often.
I have been in Snohomish for 17 years with my husband of 22 years, Pete . We have 2 sons: Casey is graduating next week from Snohomish High and Jonathan is in 9th grade @ the freshman campus.
It is nice to read what my childhood friends are doing I hope to visit soon.

Since it's going on 30 years since high school,30 years?, I got curious. It seems so very long ago. I live in Snohomish and have 2 outstanding kids, 17 and 23. I've been married and divorced twice but no regrets...I have the 2 best kid's in the world from them. Living with a great guy for the past 7 years and happy. My son is a Marine and is about to be deployed for the second time. All good wish prayers needed! My beautiful daughter is a Junior in high school and my son is in his 3rd year at WWU. Good wishes to all,

My husband, Skip, and I moved to East Wenatchee last winter, so I won't be much help with the reunion, but will be there for sure. Email me when you get back from you honeymoon.

Hi Nate: Didn't follow the hydro season at all this year. Did you race? Heard about a flock of geese on the course in the Tri-Cities that got in the way big time. Where on earth were the corner workers/barge folks eyes anyway! Will look forward to seeing you next year too.

Dear Everybody,(esp. Kristi)...
Well the years just keep on rolling on by and I, for one, cannot believe that we only have a little over a year to the BIG 30 Year!
I am so happy to see that people are still dropping in on this site, (Thank you, thank you, thank you, Scott!). I have more than a few ideas to throw around for the reunion, hope you didn't think I bailed on you Kristi? I have millions of roll-over minutes and plenty of time off for next year...so please e-mail me soon and I will give you my phone #.
Nate 'ole boy, how's the hydroplane scene? Guess who is on my mail route? Patrick Gleason, he lives out on Trout Lake. Saw his trailer and had to ask if he knew you and of course he couldn't say enough good things about you!
Pendergast...you didn't write anything? How are you and yours? I hope very well!
Mr. Davis, I remember you. How YOU doing???
Patricia Filley...wow I don't think I've seen you since our Senior year. It's nice that you popped up on this site. Would love to catch up.
Take care to all of you and remember the 30 year is just around the corner so round up those '77 fellow grads!!! We're gonna have a blow out!
God Bless and have a great week,

Starting Over with the Alumni Profiles

As some of you know, the Profiles section of this site went down about a year ago. I have spent some time since then trying to recover the lost data. I Even offered to pay another programmer to help out. There were no bites.

The program that runs the alumni profiles was one of my first attempts to write a CGI program of its size and scope. It was not written the way I would write it today. Since the old data was lost, and I needed to fix a bug that allowed the data to be lost, I have completely re-written the program behind the alumni profiles. The new program stores the profiles in a format that can be easily recovered, should that be necessary.

The flip side is that the old alumni profiles are gone for good. So if you are stopping by to see who has posted in the last little while, please post a new alumni profile. Hopefully with the 30th coming up next year, more people will stop by and update us on what is happening in their lives.

Nate, thanks for the offer.

Except for the help I need to get the profiles back up, this isn't costing me anything. In order to get the bandwidth I need for my primary website, I am paying for a 5 domain package at my web host. 30th? Wow, it seems I just missed the 25th!

A couple of notes for anyone who is still visiting this board.

1) I had to resort to a "password" to prevent spammers from taking over the board. Sorry for the inconvenience. The "password" should be obvious to anyone who grew up in Issaquah and spent any time at the beach in a nearby state park. I tried a less cumbersome anti-spam measure, and the spammers were back within an hour.

2) There is a post below about Lori Ann Roy-Chase. I don't remember who she is. If someone can confirm that she is an IHS 1977 grad, I will add her to the In Memorial page.

3) I am finally taking steps to get the alumni profiles back up. I will have to pay for an hour or so of another programmer's time, and I haven't had the money. I think I can budget it now.

Sunday morning at 5:30 Denise gave birth to a baby girl, Faith Bryce (middle name undecided) after 1 hour of sleep and 2 1/2 hours of labor. We had a planned home delivery that went very well.

At 8:30 our midwife was concerned about the baby's labored breathing, so we wound up in the emergency room. After a couple of hours in the emergency room. we were sent home.

On Monday, during the 1 day check, Faith's temperature was 102.5. We wound up back in the emergency room, this time staying at a local children's hospital for three days while waiting for Faith's breathing to cleared up, her fever to break and her cultures to come back negative.

Now we are back home with a normal, healthy baby.

Boy, I too was glad that Issaquah Little League is over for us. This was my son Derek's last year in the program and it is little bitter sweet that he did not make the All Stars this year. At least we can do other things this summer unlike the past 2 years where it seemed baseball lasted till school started. I did the Walkabout program at the middle school this year and it was weird walking around the halls of our old junior high. The area they call the ruins is where the music room was. I tell kids that I went to school there and they can t believe the school is that old!. I hope this program continues because it is a neat way to feel the pulse of the school. (I will keep my other comments to myself) :)

I am off to do the racing thing again this year. Our sport seems to be getting smaller all the time. Hard to believe I drove my first hydroplane race 24 years ago and I am still one of the younger guys doing it. Sup with that? I wish that last years San Diego race had been at a different time for I would have liked to have met some of you for the first time and met up with others after 25 years.

Teresa, sorry to hear about your dad. Most of us are entering that phase of our lives where we will be loosing parent s and family members. Like many of us, I have gone through this emotion. In my case it was with my second son. I have been very fortunate because both of my parents are doing well and living in Sequim. I know that time is getting short for them but we will all end up in a better place.

Business plans were put on the back burner, for personal time with dad and family. Dad lost his battle with cancer & passed away January 10 of this year. Been trying to help mom clean and also down-size what's accumulated in their home of 30 years.
Rod and I are going strong. Baseball season for Issy Little League is finally over, talk about living in the car! You might have seen us on the news as well, as Brandon was on the A's and we started out playing at the controversial Kelly's field, next to Tibbett's Manor. Talk about a bunch of bureaucratic who-ha! His son is about to finish 4th grade at Maple Hills Elem., and I have it on good authority that Brandons fifth grade teacher will be none other than..........
Mr.Steve Birdsall! My youngest, Regina just graduated high school on the 14th. She has a part time office job, and she also has a waitress job...goes to GRCC to finish up her AA in Business/Computer in the fall. My middle daughter, Beki will graduate from Culinary Arts school this week. She is a chef at Queen Mary's Tea House and Confections in Seattle. Oldest daughter Rachael is still finding herself, I guess. I think she has plans to return to college in the fall as well, (she's kinda on again, off again).
Everyone is healthy. Rod and I walk and talk 3 nights a week, (our time to sort out, brainstorm and blow off some steam), I do Jazzersize two nights a week and I'm drinking so much water I feel like I'm drowning. I am still not satisfied with me! Damn my metabolism and double damn menopause!!!
We're back on track with the business plans. We both got another year older since we all saw you last September.
The pics from the 25 year are great! Thanks again to ALL!
For now, Take Care & God Bless,Teresa Eck

In Memory of Steve Abrams May 30, 1959 - May 18, May 18, 2001

Today would have been Steve's 44th birthday. He passed away a little over two years ago after an intense battle with bone cancer. He left behind his lovely wife Ann to whom he was married 15 years as well as his parents and sister Linda.

Steve was a loyal, compassionate friend. He was caring, talented, ambitious, wise and trustworthy. His passing has left a hole in many hearts that will not soon heal. For those of us who knew him well, we knew we had a friend for life no matter how many miles or years separated us. His friendship was sincere and deep.

I miss you, dear friend.

Hello everyone! I hope you have all enjoyed the reunion pictures and recap of the days' events...especially those of you who were unable to attend. Would there we an interest in an informal gathering on a yearly basis? Something to think about and discuss more on the discussion board link. All my best to everyone!

Hey All, Can't wait to see the pics from the 25th. Kristi, I'll catch up to you in a more lengthy conversation soo. Am suffering this week, caught that nasty flu that has been going around these parts and it went into walking pneumonia. Took Thurs. off to go to a sm. business computer seminar & never made it out of bed. God Bless antibiotics! Rod has been doting over me, and now he's got the flu, too. Just found out my dad has quit chemo, drs say everything is advancing rapidly and give him about 2 months. There's never enough time when we learn these things. And there's always so much we wish we could take back. Cherish what you have. Ending on a low note, take care, all. Love, Teresa

Really enjoyed visiting with you. Good luck with your NASCAR bar business in Issaquah. Was wondering--do you have to get permission to use "NASCAR" in the name of your business?

Keep in touch and let me know when the 30th plans begin.

Keep in touch my friends, it was truly a blessing to spend the day with all you again.

Hey Everybody, It was a gas seeing all of you great & wonderful faces at the 25th! Kristi is absolutely right, we have become a "rich tapestry of souls", and I am a richer person for knowing all of you. Rod and I enjoyed every moment of the time we shared with you all. Still we felt we missed a few of you, and we're the less for that. We hope that you will drop us a line at; proteck77@yahoo.com. And if you're in town, let us know, maybe we'll feed you, or put you up for the night?! Stranger things have happened in our neck of the woods. Our schedules will be moving at a more brisk pace as the holidays near, but we promise to make the time to get together, if you drop us a line. I would like to THANK Lisa Clapper, Kristi Jasinski, Luki, Luke Lefler, Kathy V. & George Liepart for thier efforts and contributions on the 25th. You folks, are great! Lisa I really missed you and your bubbling personality, hopefully I'll find you at Salmon Days this year. O.K. here goes...I am officially requesting that people consider allowing me to Chair the 30 year Reunion?!! I don't know if I am stepping on any toes, Kristi/Lisa if I am just slap me down and put me right back in my place. But, I believe a fine commitee of class of '77 and I could put on a 30 year reunion celebration that will ACE all others in the history of Issy High! I have successfully chaired on many commitees in the past...Elem., Jr. High and High School PTSA, and in my College years at state and national levels. I have the time, and I am up for it. What do you all say? Who exactly am I asking? Thanks again Happiness to you ALL... Love, Teresa Eck

I had a great time at the reunion last weekend. What beautiful weather and location we had. The vintage music, memorial board, food, games and prizes made for a very fun day. The bon fire and smores were a great way to end the day. Enjoyed chatting with all of you. Thanks to Kristi, Kathy, George, Luke and everyone else who had a hand in planning this event. It was a blast. Hope we plan our 30th this way too. I think the relaxed atmosphere was a nice touch and what most people enjoy these days. Take care and I hope to see some of you that still live in the area before our 30th. Ruby, Ella and I want to plan a get together soon. Keep in touch all! Tammie (Curtis) Parkinson Kirkland, WA

Many, many thanks to all of you who attended the reunion this past weekend. Seeing you all again made the years melt away and made me realize just how precious the connection we have really is. Many of us who attended didn't even know each other in high school, but it didn't seem to matter. We found the common bond of being from the same graduating class to be stronger than we'd imagined--and I believe that will continue. We have all changed and grown up, but each one still retains the unique essence of who we were back then. As adults I believe we now have a greater capacity to appreciate and enjoy the rich tapestry of souls that was and is the Class of 77. Keep in touch.

First I'd like to say thank you George for the web contribution. Please don't be afraid to ask, if you need help or some support to keep this site up let us know, as a matter of fact if you're up to expansion give us a link as to what we can do to help keep these 1's & 0's on. Thanks Kristi, Lisa, and Valerie for sacrificing your valuable time making the needed arrangements for this reunion to be possible. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend, like possibly many others but we could use this web page for planning our 30th. I've been pretty busy with this little thing called war and was looking forward to seeing all of you. As a Marine I've seen the world a few times over, and there's no place like home. I really mean that, there isn't a single country that can compare to what we enjoy here at home. To those of you who have served I'd like to thank you for your sacrifices. I'm not sure about the rest of you but I've grown a real love for our Constitution. Ok I'll lighten up, it may have been 25 years but we're not that old, if we were trees. Well my email is mobster@inland.net. Have fun and please let's all survive for the next reunion. The list was too long when we graduated. Garron Mobley

Hello everyone!

It was a pleasant surprise to see the invitation in the mail. Many many thanks for the organizers to take the time to set everything up.

I finally moved out of Issaquah and to the Big City Seattle (West Seattle)! We are really close to Alki Beach so it feels like it's a mini-California beach (okay - yes - the water temperature and weather is about 20 degrees less) but it's still pretty special.

Hope everyone is doing well. Two of my four children are junior and sophomores in high school - so I've thought and talked about my high school a lot more. Time flies by.

Hopefully, I will be there in the evening. We have several committments during the day.

Thanks again for the great website and organizing the event - especially George,Lisa and Kristi!
